The owner of this cottage invited us to take these photographs, and showed us the way to go. . We discussed the use of the metal chimney, common in many New Zealand colonial homes. She explained that it was important to place the fire carefully, to increase the life of the chimney before the iron needed replacement. Map position approximate

This old abandoned cabin is one of the most photographed buildings in New Zealand, judging from the number of other Flickr photos. I've been before, so it was a tall task to either improve on my previous photos, or show a "new" angle on the building, . It's a colonial drover, or stockman's, hut, along State Highway 5 in the Mamaku hills near Rotorua. Old house, Mokai, Waikato, New Zealand. The owner of this cottage invited us to take these photographs, and showed us the way to go. . This whare could have been built at beginning of the 20th century at the time a timber mill was established in the village. The design is more characteristic of earlier colonial buildings however, suggesting that it may have been of 19th century origin. Map position approximate.
