I had great success with this, so my top tips are: use a strong PVA (any glue you can knock up in the kitchen prob won't be strong enough); don't burst the balloon, just put a needle carefully in the dark bit at the very top near the knot, so the balloon deflates slowly and more controlled (a sudden explosion is what probably causes some people's bowls to collapse); take your time as the key here is to work in stages ensuring each part is fully dry.
