Africa | The bold designs of these Moroccan coin headdresses suit the strong, vivacious personality of the Berber women. While the designs have remained unchanged over the years, the silver content has diminished as recent Moroccan and French coins replaced the former French napoleons, Spanish duros and heavy old Swiss coins | © National Geographic : Africa adorned. Morocco | Headress. Early 20th century | Cotton cloth, silver alloy, glass, stone, animal hair, fiber | A headdress helped a Moroccan Jewish woman to conceal her hair after marriage and proclaim her pride in her heritage. Headdresses from the Drâ valley have a rigid peaked structure covered with cotton velvet. Tubes of coiled silver adorn the upper front portion, while a fringe of cattle or goat hair borders a decorative silver band.
