Acacia barrels have been used in wine making in Europe for centuries, France and Eastern Europe (Hungary esp). The wood itself has very little tannin content, so it does not have the type of impact as a oak barrel.
In this episode I taste Matariki Quintology 2007 Hawke’s Bay. Matariki Quintology grapes are grown on the world class viticultural area known as ‘The Gimblett Gravels.
