"Saint Catherine of Alexandria" circa 1598 oil painting by Caravaggio (Milan 1561 - Porto 1610). Saint Catherine of Alexandria was a popular figure in Catholic iconography, of noble origins, dedicated herself as a Christian after having a vision. She became patron saint of libraries and librarians, as well as teachers, archivists, and all those associated with wisdom and teaching. Her qualities are supposed to be those of beauty, fearlessness, virginity, and intelligence.

OGGIONO, Marco d' Italian (1475-ca.1530)_Portrait of Francesco di Bartolomeo Archinto 1494 [This portrait is greatly influenced by Leonardo da Vinci and may be by one of the artist recorded in his Milanese workshop in the 1490s. The identification of the sitter is traditional. The scroll records that he is 20 years old. The cryptic monogram, AMPRF, has been taken to mean AM(brosius) Pr(eda) Fecit - Ambrogio de Predis made this, but has been opposed because of Predis different style]
