Pothos is arguably one of the easiest houseplants to grow, even if you're someone who forgets to water. This trailing vine, native to the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, has beautiful, fast-growing heart-shaped leaves that are sometimes variegated with white, yellow, or pale green striations.

Whether you're new to pothos or just need a refresher, this guide will set you up for success to keep your's thriving.

Keeping your pothos trailing and full is easy! I’m no expert, this is just what I do and what has worked for me.

If your vines are getting longer but not producing as many leaves or the leaves seem smaller, it might be time to trim and replant!

You’ll need
 • Clean shears or scissors

You’ll want about 4-6” of vine. Cut just below a node (little brown bumpy part). There are two options for propagating: 1) place the cut end directly back into the pot or 2) place cut end in water until a root grows. This can be done in a glass, jar, really anything as long as it’s clear enough to see growth.
 • If you choose the water method, allow roots to start growing before placing back into pot. Or you can place in entirely new pot to start a new plant!

How did I get so many blooms already?? Here is what works:
 • 1. Let the plant have a dry period. I let mine go about 4 weeks between watering (yup).
 • 2. Give it lots of bright light. All of my Hoyas hog the brightest light. They live in southern facing windows at the back of my house. It doesn’t get a drop of shade, and hours of direct bright light There are a wide variety of Hoyas, and some like a little less light. I don’t have any of those. I have found success with the sun worshippers, so that’s what I stick to.
 • 3. Resist repotting. In the wild, Hoyas are epiphytic (grow on trees). They’re not used to having their roots in soil, so they like to be a little snug in the pot without too much surrounding dirt. The only time I’ve quickly repotted a Hoya is to go down in pot size.
