Gretchen Albrecht (born 1943) New Zealand “Aotearoa - Cloud 2002” Acrylic on Belgian linen Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki Aotearoa is the Māori name for the archipelago of New Zealand. It’s best-known translations are ‘Long bright land’ and ‘Land of the long white cloud’. At five metres wide, Aotearoa - Cloud, 2002 is Gretchen Albrecht’s largest hemisphere, her long-time series that explores the representation of the cosmos in continual movement.
