This is a Buzzfeed article with pictures of really sexist adds from the 50's. Most of them portray women as being dumb or weak, some suggest that they belong to or are owned by their husbands. It is quite obvious from these ads that women were definitely seen as inferior to men. Ads today still have some of the same poor values as these, but I would like to think that we are making some advancements and the sexism is more inferential than overt.
