This is my classroom's "What are you reading" board. Students will use sticky notes to write the title, author, and genre of the book they're reading. They will use dry erase markers each day to update the page they're on and their rating out of 5 stars. This will let me see how much kids are reading, and give students a place to refer when looking for new book recommendations. #teachersfollowteachers #iteachfifth Book Bulletin Board, Library Signage, Reading Display, Lucy Calkins, Interactive Bulletin Boards, Library Bulletin Board, Reading Boards, Interactive Bulletin Board, Reading Bulletin Boards

Jenna | 4th & 5th Grade Teacher on Instagram: "Our theme bookshelf!! I love being able to display the books we have read together in class and the books they read independently. Once we finish a book we discuss the theme of the book and have a debate about what is the main theme. Then we write the title and author on that colored book spine and add it to the shelf. This way we are able to see all the books we read AND practice theme all year long!! Do you want this in your classroom?! It kept the kids excited about their reading and made them really want to share the books they were enjoying. The only problem was that at times, the rings would fall and my students would have NO idea whose was whose. So this year, I did a little tiny adjustment to it. I started off the year having each child decorate a cover card. It is just an index card onto…

This summer I read The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller. If you haven't read this book yet, it is a must read! It just reaffirmed what I already know about students and reading in the classroom, the importance of allowing choice for reading and setting aside time for students to read independently. So far it is fitting in beautifully with my Daily 5 Read to Self time. So this summer I trolled book sales, thrift stores and book stores trying to add to my new fifth grade library. I was also on…
