Mobile Sun. Tokamak on wheels. A nuclear fusion reactor designed to power construction sites on distant celestial bodies. The vehicle consists of several sections: a driver and energy operator compartment, a control room, a TOKAMAK reactor, and a compartment with a steam turbine converting thermal energy into electricity. The vehicle is fully adapted to operate in extraterrestrial conditions.

I wanted to sketch and design my own after seeing the movie "The Martian", so there you go... I started with quick doodles (that might post later), picked one and rendered it. My constraint was that the vehicle should look believable, as for a hard sci-fi flick.

Home work for Lesson 2 of Jama's class on Learned Squared. Rally enjoyed this lesson. I finally feel like I'm using the same part of my brain in 3D that I use in 2D. Also some kit bash from Vitaly's Black Phoenix set. I'll add others renders in the future.

Most ‘hobby’ mobile robots on the market are usually of the 2-, 4-, or 6-wheeled variety with no suspension or steering systems. Changes in direction are achieved by varying wheel-speeds – so-called skid or tank steering. Not this one.
