The Reading Mentor / Teacher / Tutor on Instagram: "Soft “C” Rule:

This rule comes in handy when teaching soft “C” sound making learning a breeze for the young ones!

When c is in front of an i, y, or e, it is soft and says /s/.
Example: rice, braces, space, price

When C is in front of any other letter, it is hard and says /k/.
Example: corn, castle, comb, cuddle

As usual there are exceptions like soccer.

Includes: Glued Sound Flash Card Set + Word List

👉What are Glued Sounds? Glued sounds are groups of letters whose distinct sounds are difficult to separate when segmenting words. These types of letter groupings are more easily taught as ‘stuck together’.

👉Glued sounds are also known as welded sounds.

👍🏻Glued sounds are always at the end of a syllable or word.

These sounds are best taught explicitly in groups:
Group I: /all/, /am/ and /an/
Group 2: ang, ing, ong, unk
Group 3: ank, ink, onk, unk

👉When to teach? Glued sounds should be taught after students are confident with consonant digraphs and blends.

👉Why? Recognizing glued sounds allows students to read more complex words with confidence Welded Sounds, Complex Words, Glued Sounds, Segmenting Words, Mentor Teacher, Consonant Digraphs, Stuck Together, Group 3, Flash Card
