During our community helpers theme, we focused on the post office and firefighters, since those can be most meaningful for this age group.

Community helpers and fire safety is one of my favorite units to teach. I love to see children making connections to their community. Fire Safety Week is a great time to introduce community helpers. Fire Safety can be a scary topic can become hyper focused on things that scare them. It is nice to be able to talk about it for a few days and then change the subject to a new community helper.
