Replacing a roof can be expensive, but if a roof contains only a small slope, it's possible to raise the roof pitch of a house by building a roof over the old one. This new roof with a higher pitch can be accomplished with premade roof trusses and typical asphalt shingles. Navarro & Man on Instagram: "🏡 Ever wondered why roofs have different slopes? 🤔 Let’s talk about ROOF PITCH! ⬆️⬇️

Roof pitch measures how steep a roof is, and it’s super important for design and functionality! 🏠💧

📏 To find the pitch, divide the vertical rise by the horizontal run. For new builds, estimate the vertical height and divide it by half of the horizontal width. Simple, right? 🧐

📐 Pitch is often expressed as a fraction based on 12s. For example, 6/12 means the roof rises 6 inches for every 12 inches of run. Got it? 🤓

🌧️ One big reason for roof pitch is WATER DRAINAGE! High-pitched roofs quickly send rain or snowmelt away to prevent leaks. Anything under 3/12 is low pitch, while above 6/12 is high pitch. Which do you prefer? 🌦️

Cabin Forum/Blog: What is your opinion on roof pitches? I have a 20x32 with 12 walls and really am thinking of having a 8/12pitch roof and not the 12/12 a lot of people have. I think it will be a lot easier to frame and install roofing with a smaller pitch roof than a steeper one. Is there a benifit to having a steeper roof?
