Assemble each cake tier on a cake board that has a hole in the very center. CHILL tiers until solid before proceeding. I used a 3/8” dowel that was attached to the base for central support. The hole in the center of the cardboard cake circles was large enough for the wooden dowel to pass through. My bottom cake tier had a 9” cake tier placed on top, so I needed 9 supports in my bottom tier. I use milkshake straws and mark where I’ll be placing the straws to start. I aim to have the straws placed about 1” in from the edge of the cake they’re supporting (ie: I placed the straws in the bottom tier in a 7” circle so they’d support the 9” tier going on top.)
