Chain stitch is a simple hand embroidery technique typically used to follow lines and curves (though it can also be used to fill in a space, much like split back stitch). There are two ways to do chain stitch; the "right" version is whichever version works best for you. On my blog, you'll find a beginner-friendly tutorial for both ways to chain stitch in hand embroidery, with instructions in written, photo, and (longer) video format. When embroidering angles, you should always make a small securing stitch so that the last chain stitch before the corner does not loosen.
