Many of Giulia Pintus’s pastel drawings center on the beauty of imperfection. The Piacenza-based illustrator renders whimsical characters in repose or calmly completing mundane tasks like applying mascara and threading a needle. “I love drawing human figures,” she notes. “I also like to show the psychology of the character and to do so I am inspired by real people.” The quirky illustrations consider the role of body positivity, which Pintus says is inspired by an organic source. Society is constantly reinforcing impossible norms and beauty standards, so why not turn your home into a beautifully-decorated safe-haven for body positivity?

It's no secret that women in modern society are believed to be in constant need of improvement. It's the result of many factors rooted deeply in our lives. The idea of "looking good" is communicated through slogans such as "because you're worth it," which is not really what self-love is all about.

I made this set of artwork combining illustration and photography to enlighten the consequences of the obsession with beauty. It took me four months between investigation, illustration and photo shoot to complete a total of twenty pieces. At the end I made an exhibition.
