Preventing childhood meltdowns with empathic connection
Parents ask me how do I stop a meltdown or tantrum? The reality is that when a meltdown happens, you are doing damage control. Meltdowns are inevitable. The important thing is how we preserve the integrity of our relationship and teach our kids the skills to deal with the pressures and various demands. Reducing the regularity and intensity of meltdowns happens BEFORE the storm. In times of relative calm is when you focus energy into the CONNECTION'.

Effective discipline for oppositional kids?
Parenting children through their opposition and defiance can be tough because it pushes our buttons. It is difficult not to take their resistance personally. Keep these principles in mind and you'll find your efforts to discipline your children a little less challenging. - Connect first, fix second - Parental self-regulation is important - Don't forget to mind the environment - Remember that kids are not small adults and they aren't pets (i know it sounds ridiculous but...)
