The headdress or 'money hat' (wuqayat al-darahem) was made in the 1840s and worn in the hills of southern Palestine in the 19th and early 20th centuries during wedding ceremonies, especially for the 'going out to the well' ceremony when the bride appeared in public as a married woman, for the first time. Indian (Sind/Sindh) armor, late 18th to early 19th c, detail view of the dastana (arm guard), steel, brass, Met Museum, Bequest of George C. Stone, 1935, constructed of mail and steel plates decorated with embossed brass plaques, thought to come from the northeast Indian kingdom of Sind, now a province in southern Pakistan. The region was ruled by Mirs of the Talpur family from 1783 to 1843, when it was taken over by the British, this is one of the best examples of surviving sind armors.
