Shou-Sugi-Ban or Yakisugi, the ancient Japanese art of charred cedar. The charring not only stains the wood a rich ebony but preserves and weather proofs it. Not only that but it's chemical free and incidentally renders the wood more fire resistant. @matthewlud & I are designing a coffee table together using concrete & cedar... Currently headed to the hardware store to gather tools to try our hand at this technique for our table frame today. So excited! We get a blowtorch! #wabisabi #yakisug...
