Instead of having students stand around you with questions and such, they bring their clothespin up to you and you clip it to your clipboard, then they sit back down and you call them up when you're ready. HOW FABULOUS FOR Writer's Workshop!

This idea is so smart and simple, I'm ashamed I didn't come up with it first. =] "This is one of my FAVORITE classroom management tools!! It can be soooo time consuming to answer the questions...Can we use markers?, Do we turn this in?, Is this a talking activity? A little science...This would fascinate kids. Rainbow roses, you can do this by splitting the stems into strands and placing each one in food colouring the roses draw the liquid colouring into the petals, amazing!

Calm Down Jar. It's really easy to make. The goal is that when they are feeling out of control, they shake the jar, then sit and watch the glitter settle in the water. When the glitter settles, they can get up. This one is a really great technique to use in lieu of timeout. I'm thinking a plastic jar if I used it in a classroom ;)

Quiet critters come out only when it's quiet. Love it! I can really see kids working hard to have one sit on their desk.
