Honor Flight Rochester has given dozens of local veterans a free trip to Washington to see the memorials and be honored for their service. YNN's Christina Noce spoke to one Rochester veteran who is leaving for Washington Friday and hopes the government shutdown won't leave him outside the gate.
Saturday's event at the Whitefield Regional High School was all about Vietnam veterans and giving them the welcome home they deserved but didn't get so many years ago. The welcome was late, everyone acknowledged, but it was heartfelt, and a gym full of thankful residents came to tell them so.
"Since 2009, Appleton-based Old Glory Honor Flight has flown 19 missions, transporting more than 1,600 World War II and Korean War veterans to see their memorials in Washington, D.C. The most recent flight, which took place last week, involved a new group of veterans to mark the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War."
