3/4" AC Plywood makes for a smooth and sturdy surface. Double 2x4" across the front set on top of 4x4" post gives strength and sturdiness to mount a vise, reloading press, or other tools. http://tiogapahandyman.com
Fold down garage workbenches. Space saving. Cheap. Used doors as work top. 2x4 screwed to wall. Door hinges attached to doors and 2x4. Angled pieces swing out on strap hinges to support top. A notch was cut in so they fit around the 2x4. Later I laminated the work surface.
Beautiful old-school workbench. Swedish company Sjöbergs adds slightly-modernizing updates, like steel-cored, rubber-wrapped bench dogs (with half-round tops to accommodate angled workpieces), cork jaw protectors for the vise's clamping surface, and precision steel hardware for the vise's guts.
I decided to make this workbench out of 2x4's because I needed something stable and strong enough to take a lot of abuse. Also, for the cost, it's "cheaper" and stronger than just about anything you can buy.In this instructable I'll direct the reader through a step-by-step process on how to replicate this project and even offer a few tips on how to save you a lot of time!
