Snowflake, the ONLY KNOWN albino gorilla. Lived at the Barcelona Zoo from 1967-2003. Captured from the wild by poachers in 1967, Snowflake lived out most of his life at the Barcelona zoo. He died at the ripe old age of 40 due to skin cancer, probably related to his albinism. He outlived all of his 22 children, none of whom were albino, but lived to see his many grandchildren - a rarity for gorillas.
The Silky sifaka (Propithecus candidus) is a large lemur native to Madagascar. This beautiful lemur is one of the world's rarest mammals with only several hundred left in the wild. The species is threatened by habitat destruction. Recently, however, educational programs in Madagascar show hope for better protection of this vulnerable species.(Source: digdaga, via beverleyshiller)
