A 19th century Victorian mahogany cradle in a mahogany stand.     The cradle hangs from the stand by two gilded brass brackets that allow it to rock. The cradle has a domed hood which is panelled and has carved and reeded decoration. The stand has a twin support base with cross stretchers and scroll feet, there are two turned mahogany pillars from which the cradle hangs.  c. 1870

Bedroom of the Duchesse d’Aumale ~ Château de Chantilly, France. The original mansion was destroyed in the French Revolution & entirely rebuilt in 1875–1881 by Henri d'Orléans, duc d'Aumale (1822–1897) [Wikipedia]. It was also the reputed setting of the final extravagant banquet from the famous chef, Francois Vatel - hosted in honour of Louis XIV by Louis, the great Condé in April 1671.
