Henry Ossian Flipper 1856-1940 born into slavery in Georgia. He was an American soldier, in 1877 he was the first African American to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point. Also earned 2nd lieutenant in US Army. He was the first non white to lead Buffalo Soldiers of the 10th cavalry. He was pardoned by president Bill Clinton in 1999.
