11th century- Ujigami Shrine is founded in memory of imperial prince Uji no Wakiiratsuko, who committed suicide to solve a dispute over the imperial succession. The shrine is noted for its freshwater spring. Ujigami Shrine will later be found via digital dendrochronology to be the oldest original Shinto shrine to survive to the 21st century in Japan.
