Lingual papillae on the tongue. Filiform: tiny spikes without taste buds, used for sexual information of food but serve no gustation purpose. Foliate: form parallels lines on the posterier/lateral part of tongue, Most of their tastebuds deteriorate by age of 2-3 years. Fungiform: mushroom shaped, usually 3-5 taste bods on them spread out on the tip and sides of the tongue. Vallate: usually 7-12 of them located in the posterior region of the tongue but contain half of all taste buds.
