The Stepford Wives (2004) After moving to the beautiful suburb of Stepford with her husband (Matthew Broderick), career-driven Joanna (Nicole Kidman) begins to suspect something is radically wrong with the other wives, who are led by the perky and vacant Claire (Glenn Close). Are the husbands replacing these once-intelligent women with sexually compliant cyborg copies? Joanna's new friends, Bobbie (Bette Midler) and Roger (Roger Bart), also think something's off.
The Stepford Wives is a 1975 science fiction–thriller film based on the 1972 Ira Levin novel of the same name. It was directed by Bryan Forbes with a screenplay by William Goldman, and stars Katharine Ross, Paula Prentiss, Peter Masterson, Forbes' wife Nanette Newman and Tina Louise. The film was remade in 2004 under the same name, but was written as a comedy versus a serious horror/thriller film.
Anna Hill Johnstone's costume designs in The Stepford Wives (1975). I liked the blend of Victorian and 70s fashion that the Stepford wives donned. But I also liked Joanna and Bobby's pre-robot style. I'm a huge fan of palazzo pants, and peasant blouses. I also liked Bobby's long and short jean jumpers.
