The second time in A’s history that Bonfire did not burn was almost exactly 92 years after the first Bonfire due to its collapse on November 18th, 1999 at 2:42 a.m.  The collapse killed 12 Aggies and injured 27 others.

Bonfire Memorial -  November 18th, 2009 marked the 10th anniversary of the Bonfire collapse.  Many events on campus were held to remember and honor the memory of the 12 fallen Aggies lost in 1999.

Timothy Doran Kerlee Jr., 17, died the night of Nov. 19, 1999 the day after he was injured in the Bonfire collapse. An Eagle Scout who had earned 15 additional merit badges to receive a Silver Palm, he could have chosen any university he wanted. He put A&M at the top of his list.
