I will use this chart to lead class discussions on retelling/summarizing stories throughout the year from our CC reading series.

Step 5 What does it represent? In "Eleven" the red sweater is a negative thing which represents her period because even thought it is nasty she has to deal with it. Just like the red sweater was nasty but she still had to deal with putting it on.

Writing a summary. We could use this at the end of the lesson to show our students what a good summary is. They could then write a summary of what we learned and we could use this as an assessment. This also goes great with our English TEK.
