Incorporating a linear drain into your shower allows you to slope the floor one direction, rather than using a curved funnel shape. You can use larger tiles, less grout lines. A funnel in that shape is no fun to build, let alone look at or use. With the drain down on one end, it makes the shower look and perform so much better. Can also install "tiled in" where the stainless grate is replaced with a strip of the floor tile making the drain almost invisible.
