Solstice is either the longest day of the year (summer solstice) or the shortest day of the year (winter solstice). Solstice means Sun stand Still. Newgrange - entry to this Neolithic passage tomb, Boyne Valley, County Meath, Ireland. Built c.3200 BCE, it predates Stonehenge & the pyramids of Giza. Newgrange was built with astronomical alignment. On the morning of the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, the central chamber is briefly illuminated by the rising sun's rays coming through the passage.
