The video of the beating was filmed by George Holiday was taken on March 3, 1991. George sent the video to KTLA News who broadcast the entire clip. The video was an instant media sensation and started the riots.
Rodney Glen King (April 2, 1965 – June 17, 2012) was an American construction worker who became well known after being beaten harshly by Los Angeles police officers during a traffic stop on March 3, 1991. George Holliday, a resident in the nearby area, witnessed the beating and videotaped much of it from the balcony of his nearby apartment.
The 1991 videotaped beating of Rodney King by L.A.P.D. officers, and subsequent riots triggered by the acquittal of the officers involved, rocked L.A. and the nation. The events brought to the forefront concerns about racism and police brutality within the L.A.P.D. Some, including former L.A.P.D.
