The 1992 Los Angeles riots were a series of riots that occured over a series of six days in Los Angeles metropolitan area in California in April 1992. The rioting started on April 29, 1992, after a jury trial resulted in the acquittal of four Los Angeles Police Department officers accused in the videotaped beating of motorist Rodney King following a high-speed police pursuit.
The 1991 videotaped beating of Rodney King by L.A.P.D. officers, and subsequent riots triggered by the acquittal of the officers involved, rocked L.A. and the nation. The events brought to the forefront concerns about racism and police brutality within the L.A.P.D. Some, including former L.A.P.D. Police Chief Daryl Gates, say the the way Los Angeles responded to these events helped set the stage for the Rampart scandal. Here are the views of some of the folks involved.

August 4th 1993 After a second trial L.A. Officers Laurence Powell and Stacey Koon are found guilty and sentenced to 30 months in prison for the excessive beating of Rodney King. Two other officers were acquitted. King was awarded $3.8 million in damages, investing much of his funds in to a failed rap label business.
