These reciprocal teaching cards are how I learned to effectively use this strategy with my students during guided reading. After a lot of trial and error, I created these to meet my needs, and they work fabulously with my readers. With guiding prompts to help students learn to clarify, summarize, question, and predict, these cards have made a big impact on my reading instruction.
These are great for independent reading. It helps remind students of their roles in the reciprocal teaching process. Reciprocal teaching refers to an instructional activity in which students become the teacher in small group reading sessions. Teachers model, then help students learn to guide group discussions using four strategies: summarising, question generating, clarifying, and predicting.
