Illuminated Manuscripts - Barcelona Haggadah - Stunningly illustrated with people, flowers, birds and imaginary creatures, this prayer book for the festival of Passover is one of the most richly pictorial of all Jewish texts. Meant to accompany the Passover eve service and festive meal, it was also a status symbol for its owner in 14th-century Spain.
Passover Haggadah, US 3rd Army, Munich, Germany, 1946. In 1946, under the auspices of the US Army, a special Passover seder was convened in Munich that included many Jewish Holocaust survivors. A special, non-traditional supplement to the Haggadah was printed for the occasion, its frontispiece announcing: “We were slaves to Hitler in Germany. . . .” This is the cover of that Haggadah, featuring the insignia of the United States 3rd Army.
