40002 plods along the former Preston to Longridge branch, running between Porter Street and Deepdale Road with a rake of empty 21 Ton Coal Hoppers returning from Fletcher Road sidings to Healey Mills on a dull and overcast August 15th 1983. The loco is passing through the site of Deepdale Station closed in 1930 when regular passenger trains were withdrawn by the LMS between Preston and Longridge. 40002 was new from Vulcan Foundry in April 1958 and was withdrawn after 26 years service in May…

This railway is the second railway fully owned by Native Canadians, with the first being Northern Quebec's Tshiuetin Rail Transportation. The railway company currently operates a line formerly owned by Hudson Bay Railway, and used by Via Rail passenger trains. The Texas and Pacific Railroad was extended to Fort Worth in 1876. This building was constructed in 1931 and designed by Wyatt C. Hedrick featuring art deco styles. Traffic began to decline in the 1950s and the last Texas and Pacific Railroad passenger train to Fort Worth stopped on 22 March, 1967. Now used as the end point for the intermodal train running between Fort Worth and Dallas.

The last scheduled steam-hauled passenger trains on the British Railways’ network ran between Liverpool Exchange and Preston in July and into August 1968. By that time the motive power tended to be in a poor condition, as illustrated by this Class 5MT (Black 5) at Liverpool Exchange heading a Glasgow train during the last days of steam. The steam locomotive would have hauled the train only as far as Preston where a diesel would take over. Photo by Chris the Edge Hill signalman from his…

In September 2015, the UK's longest newly constructed domestic railway for over 100 years will open to the public, carrying passengers on the scenic journey between Tweedbank in the Scottish Borders and Edinburgh, the nation's capital. New stations will open, with four in Midlothian and three in the borders - these stops will see trains running as frequently as every half hour, with travel time between Edinburgh and Tweedbank taking less than an hour.

One of my neighbours in Mr Dunn's Maths classroom was Mr M. Browne's Alkerton Road. Set in a fictional rural location between Bristol and Birmingham, Alkerton Road let a constant procession of 00 gauge trains from a nine road fiddle yard do the talking, although the station did feature a passenger / parcels bay platform with a small engine maintenance shed left over from bygone days. The station also featured kit bashed and scratch built structures and eras could be switched between steam…
