Gel stain allows you to make any painted surface (wood, laminate, metal) look like dark stained wood as long as you know the right process.  I love to restore furniture and give it a new life. For this finished I used Rust-Oleum Weathered Gray stain for the first coat.  I let it dry over night then I distressed the wood.  I used 220 grit to lightly sand, focusing on the edges.
