How to Paint Metal Doors to Have a Woodgrain Look

Wood grain can be added to any door or surface with the help of a simple, hand-held tool that can be purchased at most hardware stores. You have to do your prep work before you paint a metal door to create the wood-grain look. Clean the door and apply a base coat of paint in the color of your choice. Use gel stain and a wood-graining tool to create a faux finished grain effect. This DIY project is not as complicated as you may think.

DIY: We have outdated hardware all throughout our home since our house was built in the mid 90's. We are on a budget, so a handy friend of mine told me to spray paint everything. The guy at Home Depot recommended this spray paint, and to use steel wool on the metal to help with saturation. It'll be interesting to see how it holds up with wear and tear, but for now I'm impressed!
