October 4th - Saint Francis - San Francesco d'Assisi. While going off to war in 1204, Francis had a vision that directed him back to Assisi, where he lost his taste for his worldly life. In 1205, Francis left for Apulia to enlist in the army of Walter III, Count of Brienne.
From 1865 to 1872, the Freedmen’s Bureau helped tens of thousands of freed slaves build new lives, while documenting nearly every aspect of the post-Civil War experience.
