Classic E.histolytica troph- small central karyosome with even distribution of chromatin along nuclear membrane, finely granular cytoplasm and INGESTED RBCs- PATHOGNOMONIC (also true for E. dispar but that is non-pathogen, E. hartmanii is same but smaller and no RBC). Cysts can have up to 4 nuclei! Look for RBC in background. STOOL EIA is good test for this.

Smudge Cells Smudge cells are remnants of cells that lack any identifiable cytoplasmic membrane or nuclear structure. Smudge cells, also called basket cells, are most often associated with abnormally fragile lymphocytes in disorders such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). However, they can also be seen in degenerating samples; in which case, their origin may not be lymphocytic.
