Instead of sanding, I cleaned all the cabinets with TSP. We also did the entertainment center, mantel, and built-in bookcases at the same time and there is no way I was going to sand all of that oak!

Apparently I can repaint furniture without sanding if I use the BullsEye primer/sealer, which is supposed to stick to anything, and then do a couple coats of paint. The primer/sealer can be tinted, so if I'm going with a dark color, I'll tint it first before applying.
