Nigerian Navy’s Eastern Naval Command, ENC, has recently expanded its fleet with a new P18N offshore patrol vessel (OPV). The Navy took delivery of the new vessel, named NNS Centenary (F91), on Friday in Calabar, according to DailyPost Nigeria. With this vessel the Nigerian Navy will further reinforce its presence in the country’s eastern maritime area, keeping the waters safe from oil thieves and pirates.
Nigerian Navy has recently expanded its fleet of warships with a former United States Coast Guard cutter. The vessel NNS Okpabana, once named USCGC Gallatin, entered Nigerian waters on January 2 for its formal reception in Lagos. Prior to joining the Navy’s fleet, the vessel underwent a $8.5 million refurbishment. According to defenceWeb, NNS Okpabana is the second Hamilton class cutter donated to Nigeria by the US.
