Louis "Lepke" Buchalter (February 6, 1897 – March 4, 1944) was an American mobster and head of the Mafia hit squad Murder, Inc. during the 1930s. Buchalter was one of the premier labor racketeers in New York City during that era. Buchalter became the only major mob boss to receive the death penalty in the United States after being convicted of murder.

Witherell was convicted in 1871 of killing Mr. Wahl and trying to sell his mule team and wagon. Witherell served 9 years in prison before receiving a pardon from Governor Alva Adams in April 1881. In 1888 he went to work for Mr. McCain, a Pueblo businessman. McCain's body was found 2 days later. He was arrested trying to sell the mules and wagons. He was jailed in Cañon City, but was taken from the jail by a lynch mob to a telephone pole on First and Main Street where he was hung.
