1995, October 16: The Million Man March gathers on and around the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Called by Louis Farrakhan, the march attracts more than 800,000 people to address the economic and social ills plaguing the African-American community.


The Hon. Minister Louis Farrakhan (born Louis Eugene Wolcott), formerly Louis X, Leader of the the Nation of Islam. After the disbaning of the NOI by Elijah Muhammad's son, Warith Deen Mohammed, he regained and reopened over 130 NOI mosques in the US and the world. He also organized & led the 1995 Million Man March in DC. He has been both praised and criticized for his often controversial political views & outspoken rhetorical style. He currently claims to be both a Muslim and a Christian.


October 16, 1995, The Nation of Islams Minister Louis Farrakhan called out over a million black men together in Washington DC for "A Day of Atonement and Reconciliation".
