Jane Fawcett, British decoder who helped doom the Bismarck, dies at 95. Ms. Fawcett, then known as Jane Hughes, typed out a Luftwaffe Enigma message that she recognized as a Luftwaffe general who had sought news of a son on the Bismarck being informed that the damaged ship was on its way to Brest, France. The message, passed instantly along the chain of command, was instrumental in refinding the Bismarck, which was sunk on May 27, 1941.
