Merlin Olsen 1940 – 2010  American football player in the NFL,  a commentator, and actor. He played his entire 15-year career with the Los Angeles Rams and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 14 of those seasons, a current record shared with Bruce Matthews. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. As an actor he portrayed the farmer Jonathan Garvey on Little House on the Prairie. Merlin Olsen (Jonathan Garvey)  Merlin Olsen is famous for being a fearless NFL player with the L.A. Rams until 1976, which earned him a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1982. After his football career, he went on to play farmer Jonathan Garvey on 'Little House' and then went on to star in NBC's short-lived series 'Father Murphy' in the early '80s, in which he played a traveling priest. In 2009, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma and.  Olsen passed away in 2010 at the age of 69.
