Babi Yar Park, Denver, CO | Completed in 1982, this 27-acre memorial park was designed by Lawrence Halprin and Satoru Nishita to commemorate the victims of the 1941-1943 Soviet massacre of Ukrainian Jews. The memorial is laid out around a centralized pathway configured in a Star of David, with three distinct architectural features – an amphitheater, a grove, and a ravine.
I pinned the Memorial to Victims of Violence as my "WOW! That's Landscape Architecture?" because I never knew that they design memorials. I felt that it is a place that many go to remember, to reflect, to appreciate. There is something about a design that people can interact with it in not only a scenic, but a truly personal way.
