#History: #INFOGRAPHIC: The Long March... In 1931, the communists established the Soviet Republic of China in the mountainous area of Jiangxi province. Three years later, surrounded and harassed by Kuomintang forces led by Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, the communist leaders decided to mobilize the Red Army and take flight, thus beginning a journey that would change the fate of the Communist Party of China.
China marks the 80th anniversary of the completion of the Long March this year. The Communist Party of China and its Red Army were forced to retreat from 1934 to 1936 to evade the "extermination action" by the Kuomintang. Two hundred thousand troops joined the trek, but fewer than 60,000 survived. http://on.china.cn/2dh4BvC
