Champ, or Champie, or Champy, is the name given to a reputed lake monster living in Lake Champlain, a natural freshwater lake in North America, partially situated across the U.S.-Canada border in the Canadian province of Quebec and partially situated across the Vermont-New York border. While there is no scientific evidence for the cryptid's existence, there have been over 300 reported sightings.
While singing to herself and paddling around the lake near her home, young Hattie McFadden finds herself in a duet with a giant green lake monster. Hattie quickly makes friends with the gentle creature (whom she dubs Hudson) but can she convince the terrified townspeople that Hudson isn't a threat? Similar in appearance to the Loch Ness Monster, Hudson is huge, and small children will relish the illustrator's use of multiple perspectives to emphasize the size difference between the pals.
